Abstract
The Southside Solidarity Network, an associate member of STOP(Southside Together Organizing for Power), will be hosting"Saving Grove Parc: Successful Community Organizing on CottageGrove" Thursday, February 28th, at 8:00 PM in Harper 104.Grove Parc is a 504-unit complex of subsidized housing thatfailed to pass a HUD inspection over a year ago, and planswere made to tear down the complex and displace the tenants.The tenants of Grove Parc fought back, and won. Thesubsidized housing units will now be maintained and managed byPOAH (Preservation of Affordable Housing), a non-profit groupthat has also faced many challenges from HUD. The SouthsideSolidarity Network will share the story of Grove Parc as amodel of successful community organizing against all odds.The evening will consist of a panel discussion featuringseveral individuals from varied organizations representingdifferent opinions.
